Tropical storm Irma really made a mess of the woods. So many trees down it's hard to move around. Forest has been neglected for last couple decades. Campgrounds in decay. Even the large sign on Hwy. 15 has been missing for years. Hopefully it will get better care in the near future.

Great location for camping, insect collection field trip and others.

Make sure you obtain for collect bugs ....

There is a ranger station on 441 in Putnam county just south of Rock Eagle where you can see a map, get help or information.

My family & I've enjoyed the Oconee National Forest since 1977. In only minutes you can go from a near by town to forest where you may go a day or week without seeing other people. Depending on the time of year you can hunt, fish, camp, picnic, launch a boat, hike, bird watch, swim amongst other recreational activities at no cost. Be aware that in many places there's no cellular service & you are in Forest so come prepared. I.E. proper protection from the elements, enough gas etc.

Wonderful spot. The tenants were amazingly sweet. It was beautiful. It was extremely quiet. Great for fishing, swimming, camping, and a wonderful place to go.

Fun place to go for the weekend! Nice forest to explore!
